The Granny Wrap

I had some fingering yarn in my stash I didn’t know what to do with, a desire to great something big and fast, and my trusty 5.5mm crochet hook. So I did what any crocheter would do;

I used up that yarn and made a Granny Square.

I love Granny Squares. They are so versatile and you can do literally anything with them. Bags, blankets, cardigans- the list goes on. I decided to turn my Granny Square into a Wrap.

The Granny Wrap is the perfect lightweight addition to your summer wardrobe. It’s also perfect to work on in the summer heat. The light weight fabric made from the cotton fingering yarn and large hook size is to die for, and feels great in your hands and around your shoulders.

If you haven’t made a Granny Square before, don’t worry, you can follow along with the video tutorials included in this pattern!

Repeat Round 2 until wrap is desired depth. Sample’s depth measures 15 inches, equaling about 20 Rounds total.

If you are using a contrasting color for the wings, cut yarn and fasten off. Attach new color into ch2 space.

Part 2: The Wings

With Right Side facing, ch2, 3dc into same sp, [ch1, 3dc into next ch1 sp] until next ch2 sp, 3dc into ch2 sp. Turn work.

Row 1: Ch2, [3dc into next ch1 sp, ch1] until end of row, 1dc into ch2 from previous row

Row 2: Ch2, [3dc into next ch1 sp, ch1] until end of row, 3dc into ch2 sp

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until wing measures approximately 1/3 of desired wingspan (Wing 1 + granny square + Wing 2= wingspan). Sample’s wing measures approximately 14 inches, equaling about 24 Rows.

Tapered Decreases:

Row 1: Ch2, sk the next ch1 sp, [3dc into next ch1 sp, ch1] until 1 sp remains, 1dc into last sp

Repeat Row 1 until only 1 3dc cluster remains. Ch2, sl st into ch1 sp, and fasten off.

Attach yarn to the other side of the Granny Square, and repeat from Wings To Decreases for the 2ed Wing.

Optional: Border Sc crochet all the way around the edges of your granny wrap for a finished look. I recommend going up a hook size to make your sts looser. In solid red sample, I did the broader. In the striped sample, I did not.
